Do you need a website if you already have a Facebook page?

Plenty of small businesses run entirely on social media. It can work — but there are good reasons a proper website is still one of the best investments you can make.

A Facebook page is free, quick to set up and familiar. So why pay for a website at all? It is a fair question — and the honest answer is that social media and a website do different jobs.

You do not own your Facebook page

Meta does. Reach can drop overnight when algorithms change, accounts can be restricted without warning, and you are limited to their layout and their rules. Your website is the one piece of the internet you fully control.

Customers search Google, not just Facebook

When someone in Bristol searches "electrician near me" or "florist in Bath", they are shown websites and Google Business Profiles — not Facebook posts. Without a website, you may miss customers who use Google search rather than social media to find local services.

A website builds trust

A professional website signals that you are established and take your business seriously. For tradespeople especially, customers often check for a website before inviting someone into their home.

The best approach: both, working together

Keep your social media for day-to-day updates and community, and let your website do the heavy lifting: explaining your services, ranking on Google and turning visitors into enquiries. They work best as a team.
